Sacramento Sheriff's Department has a VIPS-Volunteers in Partnership with the Sheriff program. These are retired officers that provide services to communities.
Signing up for a vacation check is a good idea and it's as easy to do.
1) Neighbors can sign up for a vacation check at the Marconi Station (Marconi near Fulton). They have a simple form to fill out.
2) A VIPS officer
will come by on most days of a vacation to check if gates/doors are
locked, cars are still there, no newspapers are out, etc.
3) They will come in marked cars and wear a uniform that is similar to a Sheriff.
If our community participates, we would increase the visibility of law enforcement. One of our neighbors liked the idea so much she said she'd voluntarily go on vacation!
